Chip Chip Chips

Chip Chip Chips

If a Dietitian had a catch phrase it would be, “everything in moderation”. So yes potato chips can be apart of a healthy diet if you stick to eating a sensible portion (which is about 1 to 1.5 oz or a small cupped handful). However all potato chips are not created equal and although one handful of less healthy chips won’t kill you (today), it’s always better to purchase products that are made with healthy & natural ingredients.

Potato chips are essentially just fried potatoes, and “fried’ is not a healthy cooking method. Baked or “popped” chips are the way to go.

Here are 3 things to look for when buying potato chips.

1. Trans Fat Free

2. Lower Fat / 30% Less Fat or more

3. Baked or “popped”

Here are 3 potato chips brands I tried, I love & I recommend for when the potato chip craving hits.

1. Pop Chips

No fake colors, no fake flavors, no preservatives, no fluorescent orange fingertips, and no wiping your greasy chip hand on your jeans.

2. Terra Mediterranean Chips

Made from sweet potato, parsnip, batata, taro, & yuca these potatoes provide extra nutrients & fiber per serving.

3. Food Should Taste Good: Multigrain

Ok, Ok this is not a potato chip. This one is a cross between a cracker and a chip but it’s definitely one of my favorites! Flax, sunflower, and sesame seeds add extra delicious crunch and nutrition.

Each serving provides 140 calories, 6 grams of fat (from healthy oils) and 3 grams of fiber (yes!)

Cave to your Crave!

It’s ok to give into your cravings, listen to your body, and eat what you feel like. Just make sure you pick healthy natural choices & eat sensible portions and you can have the best of both word, happiness & health.

Tip: Pair your potato chip serving with an apple or a small handful of raw almonds for a balanced snack full of nutrition, fiber and deliciousness.
