GUT HEALTH: MICROFOOD, PREBIOTICS & ISOTHRIVE

“All disease begins in the gut” – Hippocrates

Good gut health is key for optional health overall. When we are young, it’s easy to eat whatever we want, when we want & for the most part – feel great! As we mature, it becomes apparent that what we eat (or don’t eat) truly plays an incredible role in our energy levels, quality of sleep, digestion, skin health, weight management, heart health, hormone health and that’s just the beginning!

The past few years I’ve personally become incredible interested in “Gut Health”. You can definitely look forward to more and more posts and videos on this topic.

At Healthy Grocery Girl we love to try different products & if we love them and truly feel that they are great, share them with you! Today is a perfect example of that. For the past month I’ve been using ISOThrive, which is a microFood supplement that supports optimal GI health. With the help of the ISOThrive team we’ve put together this overview MicroFood!

What is MicroFood and Why Is It Important?

The bacteria in our gut performs critical functions for our body and produce substances that the body needs in order to be healthy. Just as you need to eat every day, so do your gut bacteria. We call what they eat microFood (also known as prebiotics). A normal healthy western diet provides some types of microFood that your gut bacteria need, for example: raw garlic, onions, dandelion greens, leeks, asparagus, jicama root and banana, to name a few!

However, some bacteria are picky eaters…they require something that most people no longer eat: fermented microFood. A long time ago our ancestors ate large servings of bacterially fermented foods like sauerkraut, kim chi, and fermented sourdough bread. Today many people either do not eat these foods or if they do, eat a small amount. That’s not enough for those bacteria. That means that even if you’re eating a healthy diet, some of your bacteria may be starving! This is important because good gut bacteria have a very important role in our overall health.

ISOThrive adds back what’s gone missing. It contains a non-digestible carbohydrate known as MIMO (maltosyl-iso-malto-oligosaccharides). This is the same kind of microFood found in fermented foods. The best part is, instead of a sour, salty taste, ISOThrive is a lightly sweet daily treat – or for some (like me!) you may not be able to taste it at all.

MicroFood Goes Where Probiotics Can’t:

Our guts are already home to “good” bacteria that help us digest food safely and comfortably. Trying to add more bacteria doesn’t work because most probiotics are neutralized in our stomachs and never make it to our lower digestive tract.

Instead, to heal GI issues, you need to feed the bacteria you already have.

Rebalance Our Diets The Ancient Way:

But poor diet, antibiotics, infections and toxins can disrupt the bacterial balance. At that point, unwanted bacteria take over and they can wreak havoc. When that happens, you can experience all kinds of digestive distress. ISOThrive works by providing the “good” bacteria the microFood they need to keep the bad guys down. Get rid of the unwanted bacteria and you could experience relief.

It’s a new idea getting accolades from doctors and patients, alike and many people have had great results.

Commonly Reported Benefits of ISOThrive MicroFood:

ISOThrive may help in the following ways:

  • Relief from acid reflux symptoms
  • Relief from constipation
  • Reduced gas and bloating
  • More energy
  • Increased mental clarity
  • Better mood, better sleep

When your digestive system is working, your whole body starts to work better!

Ways To Enjoy ISOThrive:

I first tried ISOThrive as directed, in a glass of water. I couldn’t see or taste it – which I loved! I really appreciate a supplement that is so simple and seamless because it makes it easy to use everyday. It also makes it easy to not get bored of the taste or overwhelmed by the process.

I’ve also tried adding ISOThrive to my AM Smoothie. Since I make a smoothie everyday this was another way to try it out & be consistent with it. Because it has no taste, it blended right into my smoothie for a dose of MicroFood.
