POSTPARTUM CARE ESSENTIALS

| | | |

Hi Friends! Welcome back to Healthy Grocery Girl. Today I’m sharing with you my postpartum care essentials. When a baby is born it is not only the birth of a baby, but the birth of a mother! I am so looking forward to meeting our daughter and snuggling with her in those early days. Postpartum care for mom is so important and sometimes overlooked. I have put together two stations, one to go on my nightstand and one to go in the bathroom filled with products to help me care for my body in those early days, weeks & months after birth.

Lastly – don’t forget to to follow me on Instagram @HealthyGroceryGirl to stay up to date with our pregnancy journey!

NIGHTSTAND POSTPARTUM CARE ESSENTIALS

BODY BUTTER

I used this on my stomach throughout my pregnancy to help prevent stretch marks. I absolutely love it! It’s so creamy. Urban Oreganics makes the highest quality skin care products using natural, organic, and vegan ingredients. You can use the code HGG15 for 15% off your Urbane Oreganics order!

NIPPLE BUTTER

I also have some Earth Mama Organic Nipple Butter. This USDA Organic and Non-GMO Project verified cream states that it’s safe enough to lather on your boobs and there is no need to wash it off before nursing! It’s also multi-purpose and great for lips, cheeks, heels and elbows.

NURSING PADS

These nursing pads from NatraCare are soft, breathable and chlorine-free.

LOTION, LIP BALM & HAIR TIES

It’s also good to have a quality natural lotion and Lip Balm nearby for dry skin or dry lips

WATER BOTTLE

I plan to use this giant water bottle after birth to help me stay hydrated. This is my favorite water bottle!

SNACKS

I’ve included some snacks such as protein and snack bars which can last a long time without refrigeration. Lately I’ve been obsessed with these plant-based protein bars. They feel like a total treat but are not too sweet. I also love that they have a a good amount of protein which is important for feeling full and satisfied. There are lots of other snacks and healthy meals I’ll be enjoying postpartum that I’ll keep stored in the fridge or pantry but it will be nice to have a few items stashed on my night-stand for a quick treat.

I will likely add more items to my night stand once baby girl arrives and I truly see what I love using. I also plan to put together a station with diapers and wipes for easy changes when we’re relaxing in our bedroom.

BATHROOM POSTPARTUM STATION

I’ve included some of the same products on my nightstand in my bathroom station so that they are convenient and within reach. I’ve also included some new items specifically for use after the bath or toilet use.

MESH / WATER RESISTANT UNDERWEAR

Almost every mama I talk to recommend stocking up on Mesh Underwear or Leak Proof Underwear for those weeks and months after childbirth. They are perfect to wear with padsicles because padsicles will defrost as you wear them causing water leakage. These are the ones I purchased. It is natural for your body to bleed for a little while after giving birth, sometimes for weeks. Of course if you feel that what you experiencing is abnormal definitely do not hesitate to inform your mid-wife or doctor. Depends will save you from ruining your actual underwear.

MATERNITY PADS & DIY PADSICLES

I have a stash of these NatraCare maternity pads & regular pad because you do bleed post baby. I’ve made DIY padsicles which are stored in the freezer. I’ll be sharing a DIY PADSICLES 3 WAYS video on our YouTube Channel soon, so make sure to subscribe to our YouTube Channel to not miss a video!

PERINEAL BALM

I’ve been told and if you’re already a momma you know that a lot of going on down there after birth. The good news is – our lady parts will heal, especially with the help and care of quality, natural products. Earth Mama’s Organic Perineal Balm is made with organic herbs and oils as well organic witch hazel, lavender, peppermint other botanical ingredients to provide cooling comfort for pregnancy and postpartum relief. You can also store this product in the refrigerator for extra cooling relief.

PERINEAL SPRAY

Earth Mama’s Organic Perineal Spray is recommended for those first post childbirth bathroom trips. You can mist as often as needed, especially after a bath or toilet use. It’s made with cooling cucumber, organic witch hazel and organic herbs traditionally used for postpartum relief to help soothe perineal discomfort.

FRIDABABY MOM WASHER

Wiping with toilet paper may feel like sandpaper in those early days post childbirth. The Mom Washer is a peri bottle designed to make your post-delivery healing process cleaner and easier. It’s a convenient tool both for home use and on-the-go.

Quality products are amazing and can make life and the healing process more enjoyable. Here are some additional postpartum care items and tips..

If you plan to breastfeed hire a lactation consultant early on! Someone who can come to your house and give you tips, answer your concerns or questions, boost your confidence and ensure baby is latching properly.

SAY NO TO LOTS OF GUESTS AND LONG VISITS

It’s okay to say no and keep visit short.

A GOOD NURSING BRA!

These are the nursing bras I have and love. They are so comfortable. I love these nursing sports bras from Senita. They are so cute!

CABBAGE LEAF

Cabbage leaves are used by some women to help reduce breast inflammation and relieve the pain and discomfort that breast engorgement, an over supply of breastmilk, or weaning a baby from breastfeeding can cause. To use place a clean cabbage leaf in your bra up against your skin and wear for approximately 20 minutes, no more than 3 times per day. Be cautious of cabbage leaf us as it may decrease milk supply.
